BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors. Position SummaryBB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Interior Designer to join our team, supporting facilities design and construction projects for NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic on-site at Naval Station Norfolk, VA. Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide independent, timely and professional specialized interior design support, services and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including minor works projects, specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), demolition, maintenance, space utilization and facilities developmentParticipate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborates with engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirementsProvide a broad range of interior design services to all activities and tenants; this includes many customer activities with varied missions, dispersed over a sizable geographical region with numerous facility types, ranging from administrative and housing facilities to very complex industrial and operational facilities and equipmentCreate innovative interior designs of new facilities as well as the maintenance and repair of existing facilities; such services are complicated and intensified by the following factors: aging and obsolete facilities; customer activity mission changes; and variable funding sources among the customer activitiesKey QualificationsU.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is requiredCertification: National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification is requiredKnowledgeKnowledge, as demonstrated by recent relevant experience, to prepare interior designs that meet functional and aesthetic requirements, and produce final working drawings for facilities, such as multi-story office buildings, operational facilities, personnel support facilities, industrial type shops, housing, and other facilities normally found on military installations is requiredKnowledge of interior design concepts, principles, and practices applicable to the full range of duties concerned with the design, layout, and construction of facilities is requiredAbility to supplement standard practices and adapt techniques to solve a wide variety of technical issues is requiredAbility to apply innovative theories and state of the art methods to technical principles, practices, and problems not resolvable through conventional methods is requiredKnowledge of related engineering disciplines (i.e., architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and fire protection) to assure that areas of overlapping responsibilities receive proper design consideration and that total project objectives are met.Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and the ability to consolidate the findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts; ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studiesKnowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and motivate and lead individuals of a variety of backgroundsKnowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiencesSoftware: Proficiency using MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and database type software as well as SpecsIntact word processing software, and cost estimating software; proficiency in the use of computer aided design and drafting software and hardware used in the preparation and presentation of concept designs and the preparation of final working drawingsSelf-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomouslyExperience & EducationExperience: A minimum of 10 years of professional interior design code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is requiredEducation: A minimum of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree for interior design from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited college or university supplemented by significant work experience and/or research in commercial interior design, is requiredPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the timeAbility to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls;
