Interior Design Manager

About the role

A boutique New York City interior design studio is hiring a Design Manager to work alongside the Design Director across its residential, commercial and procurement work.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will be reviewing millwork details one hour and leading a client presentation the next. The studio designs large private homes where the kitchen, the dining space and the storage have to work perfectly for families who entertain on a serious scale, and where every finish is specified rather than bought off a shelf.

The work is detailed, the standards are high, and the clients are closely involved. The person who does well here holds the big picture and the fine detail at the same time, keeps projects moving, and takes ownership when something goes wrong rather than waiting to be asked. Leadership here is about ownership, not ego.

Project and team management

Oversee timelines, deliverables and team accountability across several active projects
Manage weekly priorities, internal deadlines and project schedules
Keep projects on track financially, operationally and creatively
Support billing targets, tracked hours and resource allocation
Coordinate workflow between the design, drafting, procurement and construction teams
Lead internal project reviews and maintain quality standards across every deliverable
Identify project risks early and solve problems before they escalate
Mentor and guide designers, lifting performance and accountability across the team

Design responsibilities

Review and guide space planning for luxury residential projects
Oversee design presentations, material palettes, FF&E selections and overall project direction
Coordinate custom millwork, stone, lighting, plumbing and architectural detailing
Review drawing sets so design intent and technical execution line up
Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors and vendors through every phase
Conduct showroom visits, site visits and installation walkthroughs
Review procurement schedules, vendor coordination and lead times
Manage client communication, follow-ups, approvals and expectations
Keep specifications, budgets and project documentation in order

What you bring

7 or more years in high-end residential interior design
Experience managing people and large-scale projects
Real depth in luxury residential detailing, construction and procurement
Strong knowledge of materials, millwork, FF&E, budgeting and technical coordination
The ability to balance multiple projects, personalities and deadlines without losing the thread
Clear communication with clients, consultants, vendors and internal teams
Calm under pressure, solutions focused, organized, and still design driven
Bachelor's degree preferred

Experience with homes built around large-scale family entertaining: specialized kitchen planning, extensive storage, formal dining for large groups and bespoke millwork throughout. Candidates of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
