Job Overview
We manage a portfolio of multi-million-dollar custom residential construction and remodel projects in the San Diego area. This is a small, direct team - you'll work closely with ownership and operations on design, sourcing, vendor management, and project scheduling across multiple active properties. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead innovative design initiatives, manage comprehensive projects from concept to completion, and create luxurious, functional spaces that elevate client experiences. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for sophisticated interior environments, exceptional technical expertise, and a proactive approach to client communication and project management. This role is a great fit if you've built a strong foundation in high-end residential design and you're ready to carry a full home from concept through installation, with the stability of an established company behind you. Join us to craft inspiring interiors that set new standards in elegance!
Responsibilities
Lead the full selections process per project: concept and vision meetings, working sessions, and category-specific decision meetings (cabinetry, tile, doors and windows, lighting, plumbing fixtures, etc.)
Develop and Run complete, decision-ready design concepts and sourcing options for each category, within budget, with upgraded options clearly separated
Take a stated design direction and develop concepts, furnishings, and finishes to match it
Design custom furniture, millwork, and built-in details when needed
Build and maintain a selections schedule with the general contractor/project manager, sequenced by lead time, so long-lead items (windows, doors, custom cabinetry) and rough-in-dependent decisions (plumbing, electrical/lighting placement) are locked on time
Maintain detailed, organized vendor records across all trades - contacts, pricing history, and lead times
Negotiate trade and bulk pricing with vendors and suppliers
Coordinate directly with architects, contractors, and the GC's team on specs, rough-in requirements, and project timelines
Review drawings, specifications, and construction documents for design accuracy
Conduct site visits along VP of Operations and oversee design implementation
Maintain organized procurement records and budget tracking per project
Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BFA or BS) in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field required
4-7+ years of professional interior design experience, with meaningful high-end residential experience or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of construction, remodeling, and custom home design, including build sequencing and lead times
Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp required; Revit a plus
Proficiency in 3D rendering/visualization software and current AI-assisted rendering tools
Experience with CubiCasa or similar mobile floor-plan scanning apps
A personal experience portfolio showing original concept development
Highly detail-oriented, with strong organizational and project management skills
Demonstrated vendor negotiation experience
Self-motivated and highly autonomous - comfortable working independently and reporting directly to ownership
Excellent, direct verbal and written communication; relationship-driven with both ownership and vendors
Proficient with mobile design and collaboration apps
LEED AP, NAHB, and NKBA certifications a plus, not required
