Senior Interior Design & Construction Project Manage

Clayton and Lee, Inc New York, New York $92,500–$120,000 a year

About the role

Clayton & Lee brings interior design and construction together to deliver high-end residential projects. We're seeking a Senior Interior Design & Construction Project Manager to lead projects from design development through construction, installation and closeout.

This role is ideal for someone with real expertise on both sides of a project. You're fluent in finishes, millwork, furnishings and design intent, and equally comfortable with trades, sequencing and the realities of the jobsite.

You'll run client and site meetings, manage contractors, subcontractors, vendors and fabricators, and oversee drawings, selections and submittals. You'll own your projects and be accountable for their schedule, budget, quality and client experience, making sure everyone meets Clayton & Lee's standards for detail and design integrity.

Core responsibilities

Interior design and design coordination

Work with the design team through design development on space plans, finish selections, millwork, lighting and furnishings
Prepare and revise drawings in AutoCAD, including plans, elevations and millwork details
Review architectural and interior design drawings for coordination and constructability
Review shop drawings, product data and samples to confirm they match design intent
Manage FF&E procurement, delivery, receiving and installation

Construction management and field coordination

Lead projects from mobilization through construction, installation and closeout
Run client and site meetings, issue meeting notes and follow up on action items
Supervise site leads and coordinate contractors, subcontractors, vendors, fabricators and installers
Create detailed project schedules from design through closeout, and keep them updated, tracking milestones, long-lead items and trade sequencing
Plan and manage trade sequencing, deliveries and installations so work happens in the right order without delays or rework
Walk jobsites regularly to check quality, accuracy, safety and adherence to design intent
Coordinate with inspectors, local agencies and consultants on permits, inspections and signoffs
Manage punch lists and project closeout

Documentation and communication

Write clear, professional emails and correspondence to clients, designers, trades and vendors
Manage RFIs and submittals from start to finish, with timely responses and clear records
Prepare regular progress updates covering schedule, field conditions, changes and open issues
Keep project documentation, logs and updates organized and current using Clayton & Lee's Excel project templates
Work with the design team to resolve detailing conflicts, field changes and constructability questions

Subcontractor management

Prepare and level subcontractor bids, and write detailed, complete scopes of work
Negotiate subcontracts and manage agreements from issuance through execution
Manage subcontractor performance to keep work aligned with scope, schedule and quality expectations
Hold subcontractors to Clayton & Lee's standards for workmanship, safety and site conduct
Review subcontractor payment applications and lien releases with accounting

Budget and contracts

Develop and manage project budgets, proposals, change orders and purchase orders
Support client billing and keep an accurate projection of cost to complete

Leadership and accountability

Own each project's schedule, budget, quality and client satisfaction from start to finish
Follow through on commitments and keep clients and leadership informed of progress and changes
Anticipate risks and raise them early, bringing proposed solutions rather than just problems
Build a collaborative, proactive relationship between the design team and the field
Uphold Clayton & Lee's standards for safety, professionalism and craftsmanship

Professional degree in architecture or interior design from a US-accredited school.
5+ years of professional experience in a design-focused practice, with recent experience in private residential projects at small to medium-sized firms.
